In many small communities, families struggle in silence. Resources are limited — and when they do exist, they are often hours away. Stigma is strong. And far too many people feel alone in their experiences. Rural communities are built on hard work, integrity, and pride, yet these same strengths can sometimes make it harder to ask for help. The Be A Light Project was created to change the way mental health is viewed and discussed, and to create spaces where awareness, support, and resources can be accessed closer to home — especially in communities that are most vulnerable to suicide.
We show up in the places where people gather — coffee shops, schools, vendor events, small businesses, and community celebrations — to spark connection, share tools, and remind people that their stories matter. Through education, prevention-focused programming, and community events designed to inspire hope, we help individuals and families feel seen, supported, and empowered.

The Be A Light Project, Inc. was founded in 2025 with a vision to make conversations about brain health feel normal, accessible, and free from stigma.

The Be A Light Project is built for rural communities — relatable, accessible, and delivered in a language that reflects the way we live, speak, and gather in small towns. What sets us apart is not just what we do, but how we show up and share our message. Our work is shaped by lived experience and deep community connection.

Rural families often face limited access to resources, long travel distances, and stigma that delays important conversations until a crisis occurs. The Be A Light Project exists to create proactive opportunities for awareness, education, and connection — bringing hope and support closer to home.
-
The Be A Light Project does not replace professional services — it bridges the gap to them. By listening first and working alongside families, schools, businesses, providers, and community partners, welcoming spaces are created through the Hope Lives Here model, where individuals can talk through big feelings, build understanding, and connect with resources without having to travel far from home.

The Be A Light Project hosts a variety of community-centered events designed to spark conversation, build connection, and increase awareness around brain health in rural communities. Our events range from educational seminars and workshops to community gatherings, panels, fundraisers, and storytelling-based experiences. Each event is intentionally created to feel approachable, inclusive, and rooted in the places where people already gather.
